McCarthy Catholic College was established in 1986 as a Catholic
Senior co-educational High School, and soon developed a
formidable academic reputation. Restructuring from 1999 saw our
College subsequently develop into a dynamic 7-12 school and our
current enrolments sit at approximately 900 students.
Science and Engineering Challenge
UWS
Monday 29th June

On Monday 29th June 24 Year 10
students from 10 RED Homeroom competed in the Science and
Engineering Challenge at the University of Western Sydney in
cooperation with the the University of Newcastle.
This initiative is supported by the Australian Government
through The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and
Research and sponsored by the Australian Constructors
Association.
The Challenge was a set of fun and competitive activities
involving principles of science, engineering and technology. The
concept was to immediately engage students in the activity with
a minimum of introduction and theory. Students explored
scientific principles for themselves rather than being guided to
a predetermined answer. The activities included:
Job Juggle, The Dish, Crypto Cracking Cronies, Back to the
Future, Confounding Communications, ElectraCITY, Eco-Habitech
and Gold Fever
McCarthy won this challenge against 5 other schools, including
Penrith High, and are now going to the State Super Challenge at
Macquarie University at the end of July. Many thanks to
teachers; Mr Ross Cutts and Mrs Jill Harrington, for supporting
our budding scientists and engineers.
